"Music by a good brass band. Plenty of ice-cold beer; lemonade, etc. at the bar. Everyone is cordially invited to attend."

—Henry Louis Kreische, La Grange Journal, 1884

Step back in time to the historic Bluff SchuetzenFest

Where shooting kings reigned, beer taps flowed, and families forgot their worries for a day. Experience our annual festival honoring the legacy of brewmaster Heinrich Kreische and his thriving German-Texan community.

From ~1870-1884, Heinrich Kreische's brewery on the Bluff served up a product that not only quenched thirst, but brought communities together. Kreische's Bluff beer was celebrated and enjoyed for miles around La Grange, making it the third largest brewery in Texas at its height of production.

Now, over 140 years later, Texans continue to support their local craft breweries and the people behind them. By bringing brewers and beer-lovers together on the Bluff, we toast to the legacy of Heinrich Kreische, his Bluff beer, and Texas beer's place in the greater American story.

At Bluff SchuetzenFest, craft brewers from around the state celebrate the rich beer history of Texas with popular brews, as well as special and limited releases. Featuring craft breweries from all over Texas, including some of the most awarded in the state, Texas History on Tap has something for everyone to enjoy.
